News Sep 28, 2009 NOB Ride Report & News BentLovers & Friends Well, the weather not only permitted, it seemed to invite us, to ride to Natchez last Saturday for the annual Natchez or Bust (NOB) ride! We launched a bit late at 7:15 AM with light mist, occasional fog, and finally afternoon sunshine, providing refreshing and varied cycling weather for the entire 105 mile trip. No wind and moderate temps made the ride fun, and the cooling mist reduced the need for liquid intake for most of the day. This was welcomed since we were riding self-supported. At the Rocky Springs lunch stop, it was interesting giving out business cards to the noisy, hog riding Shriners after they parked. They seemed impressed that we had to pedal our machines, as we were impressed with the number of heart bypasses one Shriner bragged about. We quietly left them pondering. Many thanks to Angela and Amelia for providing refreshments at the last rest stop! They were excited to learn that Carl had led the way for most of the ride on his very new Bacchetta CA-2! Way to go Carl! The cool gatorade they provided was a welcome treat before we tackled the fun hills at the end of the ride and into the Natchez State Park, where everyone arrived within minutes of 2:45 PM . . . right on schedule! We were sorry Roy had mechanical problems with his rear hub early into the ride and had to drop out :-( We are sure he will be ready next time! Thanks to Doug and Bard for holding back a bit to try and keep the group together! At the restaurant, the view overlooking the Mississippi River was spectacular as we watched the cool, wispy clouds move in above laboring tugs maneuvering barges up river. The food was excellent and the anticipated celebratory cocktail was awesome! On the scenic drive back, we saw scores of turkey and deer-enough to require all eyes spotting any eager critter wanting to cross the road in front of Doug's truck. Many thanks to Doug for leaving his truck and trailer at the park on Friday morning! Of course that meant he got to ride about 120 miles . . . each day! Just another day in the park for this man, it seems! Mostly, thanks to Lane for keeping the Bread Ride going and the shop open!! We will have a huge Bread Ride this Saturday, so come out and join us! We will close the shop for the MS 150 in two weeks. If you haven't signed up or want to donate, we have forms at the shop. Remember the Birthday Challenge Ride on the Longleaf Trace on November 7! This will be the biggest ever! We do expect to give a bicycle away, so make your plans to attend!! info@ridesouth.com RideSouth.com 105 Avalon Court Brandon, MS 39047 601 992-2490 888 822-3647 Ride South . . . The Way to Ride!
