Ridgeland Century Ride Report

Wow! What a great day for cyclists! The 2007 Ridgeland Century Ride had it all! What a great job by the Ridgeland Recreation Department to put on the best ride ever! Perhaps a little apologetic for the bad weather two weeks ago, we were blessed with absolutely perfect weather Saturday! Temps in the 60's gave way to moderate cloud cover and sun in the afternoon, with a little tailwind going out, and only a slight breeze coming back. Over 300 riders, including about 30 recumbents, and a handful of hand cyclists, eased out of the Old Trace Park, made their way through blocked off intersections on Rice Road and entered the Natchez Trace at the Craft Center. Feeling the power and unity that blocking traffic brings, riders quickly separated or formed groups according to their expected ability. Some went 25 miles, 50 miles, 62 miles or 100 miles. No matter, it was great to see so many riders enjoying the fellowship. Yes, there was a bit of competition enjoyed, and quite a few folks came by the shop, after the excellent food offered at the ride, to check out the fast bents on display.

Oh yes, the Friday night pre-ride party was tons of fun, too! Thank you to Ann Wilson, who serenaded us with her excellent banjo playing! Thanks also to Michael Trigleth, who brought out his guitar, indian drums, tambourines, india flute, shakers, and double eagle india flute and everyone got in the act! The later it got, the better we all sounded! There was ping pong action and plenty of food and drink to go around. Thanks to all who made it!

We have one of our own embarking on a great adventure from the Ride South shop to Utah! Bob Maselle, will pilot his RANS Stratus down the Trace and then ride west, beginning tomorrow, Tuesday morning, May 1st, at 8:30 AM. Greg Palmer (an excellent photographer who took photos of most everyone at the century ride Saturday, which we have at the shop) will be on hand, and perhaps some press and news coverage as well. We know you wish him well and we will try to follow his progress. Way to go, Bob!
