Journal Entry Sep 23, 2002 Four miles of fresh, flat, lined, straight pavement with zero traffic! A bikers dream! The weather turned out fine for the weekend after all. Steve met me at the shop Saturday morning, having ridden his trike over from Madison, starting from his house before dawn. We talked awhile and decided to take off for a ride up the Trace, in spite of the ominous looking clouds. We tried out the new low road across the spillway and found it PERFECT for biking! Four miles of fresh, flat, lined, straight pavement with zero traffic! A bikers dream! It looks like they will have to open it soon to traffic though . . . oh well. After doing a 38 mile loop up the Trace and to Steve's house, where I was glad to finally meet Pam Stephenson, Steve's wife, I was almost back when I ran into Bob Masselle (Stratus) heading out. Bob & I headed back to the Dock together, when I had to beg off and return with a sore knee muscle. Bob finished the 38 mile Round the Rez ride alone (sorry, Bob :-() and I iced my knee awhile at home and mowed the lawn. Yesterday, Bill and Karen (brand new MAROON Screamer TR, Mark (Stratus), Lane and myself (Screamer Tandem demo), launched around 2:00 PM from the shop. The low road was great again, but the knee pain came back after about ten miles out and forced me back, with Lane taking up the slack on the return trip. ( I think it was the lawn mowing that did me in after the previous day's ride ;-|) Mark, Bill & Karen returned, all smiles, after completing the 38 mile ride out and back! Put these events on your calendar! Bill & Karen Hulett (V-Rexes and new Screamer TR) have invited all to their Lake Lorman resort Saturday, September 27th, for a fun day of bent activities! We will begin the day at 7:30 AM for an 8:00 AM launch through beautiful Madison county, returning to watch the dog/cat fight on the tube as MSU takes on the Tigas in LSU at 11:30. Everyone should bring "pot luck" for lunch and be ready for Hobie Kayak races in the afternoon, when we will set up a course on fabulous Lake Lorman and pedal or paddle kayaks (provided by Ride South . . .bring a life vest if you think about it) to provide some friendly, refreshing competition to top the day off! If that's not enough for you, the next day, on Sunday, the 28th, ride your bike to Strawberry Park, in Madison, for the Christ United Methodist Church Picnic from 4-7 PM! We have a large contingency of BentLovers already, and I am sure you join in with Lane & myself in inviting all to a great time and good fellowship on Sunday! We will provide details and directions later on in the week. A final note. We have found some great looking CoolMax bike wear we want to have imprinted with our new logo. Do any of you have contacts for a good screen printer? Call me ASAP if so. Thanks! View All Journal Entries |
