Journal Entry Jan 5, 2003 Yardman saw him coming and shifted into R & G (rice & gravy turbo drive)! The Sunday Round th' Rez ride is growing! The weather was perfect again . . . even caught a few rays! We left promptly at 2:00 PM and began the clockwise loop, beginning across the spillway. That route is preferred and seems relatively safe with the new bike lane on the high road. Present, was a diverse group of riders, including Backman (Bob McGuire . . . Orthopedic & Neuro Surgeon), Bookman (Press York . . . College Instructor), Yardman (Danny Wallace . . . Landscaping Expert), Policeman (Doug Scott . . . Crime Statistics Expert), and Bikeman (Yours truly). Backman led the way with Bikeman, Bookman, and Yardman in hot pursuit. We passed Policeman, late for the start, heading the other way in his truck. By the time we made the Trace, he had re-launched and regrouped with us on the Trace. Five low riders together on the Trace! Wow! Two front faired V2's, two front-faired Stratuses and one non-faired Stratus! Yardman said he was feeling good and took off. We struggled to stay up, averaging 17 mph to Hwy 43 with a top speed of 35.4 mph. We had left Policeman behind this time (it was his first group ride), but I think he will be a force in the future. After a stop at Tommy's we took off for the last 20 miles. As we were climbing the hill from Tommy's, a roadie passed us from behind with a greeting. Yardman saw him coming and shifted into R & G (rice & gravy turbo drive)! Bikeman stayed in sight close enough to see Yardman never get passed by the roadie! He said he was feeling good! Backman and Bookman joined us at the church in Fannin, where all of us rode back together . . . that is till Yardman hit overdrive and left us all again with the roadie in pursuit, all the while shifting in the saddle, searching for that elusive *comfortable spot* never to be found! We all felt great after the ride and were in good spirits as we made a modification to Backman's bike to lay the seat back a bit more. These rides are really fun, and we encourage all to come out and join us. If you would like to ride shorter or slower, we can do that too! We will be posting events on our new website which should be up very soon, so be sure and keep checking as there are a lot of fun rides coming up this year! View All Journal Entries |
