Journal Entry Mar 1, 2003 The morning fog did not disappear by eight from the cycling Camelot . . . The morning fog did not disappear by eight from the cycling Camelot on the Longleaf Trace yesterday. In fact, a cool mist prevailed all day, cleansing the skin, eyes and lungs. To this rider it was much more refreshing than having a soft (or hard) drink claiming that mist-like refreshment . . . the real thing! No sweat . . . eight riders left Prentiss heading for Sumrall 25 miles away. Don, Doug, Lynda, and Press piloted their RANS Stratus machines through the mist stopping occasionally to wipe glasses and fairings for better vision. Pam, Danny and this rider were on RANS V2 bikes, all faired, with Lane on a RANS V-Rex demo. Danny had a late start but enjoyed the challenge to catch us on the trail, which he did. Some highlights of the trip, other than the weather, were the finding of two animal skulls by Press, hidden in the brush. One had the leash and collar attached! We saw lots of live animals, too. The always present llama, and a mother herding her litter of eight puppies across and down the trail right if front of us! She took a quiet but strong defensive stance until one little fellow tripped on his chin climbing the embankment by the trail and started squealing . . . then she convinced us to keep on going. We all convened at the Kountry Kitchen in Prentiss for refueling. The hamburger steak smothered in onion gravy was good and the fellowship was great! Don couldn't stay after his 50 miler, and wanted to get home and check on Doris. We hope she recovers from her illness soon and can make it out to ride with us. Everyone seemed to have a good time and planned to return to the LLT soon. Remember April 5th is the BIG day for recumbents to make it to the big time on TV! Plan your trip now as we are expecting a HUGE turnout for the Bent-B-Q ride on the LLT! View All Journal Entries |
