Journal Entry May 6, 2006 Lots & lots of Barbecue! Yesterday's Bent-B-Q ride was indeed a ride of excess. Sure, there was excess in the barbecue from two excellent caterers who inadvertently showed up with food for the multitudes (the buck stops, or rather goes from here), but there was also excess in the fun and fellowship of those that made the ride. We hope everyone enjoyed the tee shirt and gift certificate giveaway as well. The perfect weather was in excess, right up until the scheduled time of lunch under the pavilion at Lake Jeff Davis, and the lake was excessively beautiful and peaceful after the spring rain came through to clear the pollen. The company and fellowship, during the ride and after lunch were also in excess. We made new friends and enjoyed visiting with everyone. We had some first time trail users and folks from four different states who came over just to make the ride! Many folks bettered their distances and speeds! The trail was beautiful and in great shape all the way to Hattiesburg, bringing out smiling coeds from the university, biking, walking and bladeing. We guessed they were smiling at our bikes as we managed to pass them several times! There were a few fast cyclists on the trail, but they were no match for us as we hurried to make it back for lunch. Guess they had eaten already! Thank you all for making the effort to support our events and our shop! Remember next weekend is the Ride the Rez ride where we combine with JMC to sponsor a 60 and 30 mile ride launching from the Ride South shop at 8:00 and 9:00 AM. The ride ends at The Fresh Market Cafe, on Spillway Road, for lunch and fellowship. We hope all can make this important event. We need a few volunteers to help with registration and one rest area at Brown's Landing. If someone is available to put out signs on the shorter Reservoir loop, that would be very helpful as well.
