Journal Entry Aug 30, 2008 NOB Ride Report: A Breeze! BentLovers & Friends, After a false start from a threatening hurricane Faye on the 23rd, we rode a 5-10 mph tailwind most of the way to the Natchez State Park last weekend, August 30th. Not to look a gift horse into the mouth, the breeze was helpful until it counteracted the slow pace up the last few hills, causing a lack of cooling effect for most riders. No one complained about the 6:00 AM start at that point! The looming hurricane Gustav brought in a thunder shower just as the last rider had showered in the welcome cold showers at the park. Lane was the BEST support and appeared everywhere with food and drink to keep the group going! Thank you Lane!!!!! After loading the bikes we drove down to the river and had a great meal at the Magnolia Grille! We will have to try the Bloody Mary next time. It really looked good! The drive back was eventful as around many of the bends we had encountered on the bikes hours before, we saw flocks and flocks of turkeys, herds of deer and a few raccoons looking at us with curiosity. Of course there were the usual snake parts and the occasional live snake, too. Many thanks to Super Doug who had driven to the park Thursday night to leave his truck. Naturally, he rode his bike to Jackson Friday to join us for the trip Saturday. Why didn't we all think of that?! He also marked the turns through the park so we could find our way! Way to go Doug! Way to go Wayne for a personal best and for helping with the SAG chores on the last leg! Thanks!! Please give us your feedback so we can make the event better next time. We have already thought of having a bit of spirits and cheese at the park to celebrate the finish. We welcome your comments! Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the storms.
