Journal Entry Feb 8, 2009 Baconater Ride Report & News Can you justify a 1200 calorie meal when you have just enjoyed the day spending over 7000 calories? You bet cha! We previewed the Signature Ride route again Sunday in perfect weather conditions and expect we have the route set for fun! There are restrooms, stores or vending machines, and water, at almost all the stops. Yes, some hills are available for your entertainment and the vast majority of the roads are smooth and quiet. On the official ride date, March 28th, Captain Rawls will have an officer fleet to help keep the traffic slow and keep us fast through the few intersections we encounter. We will have, at the least, a lead and sweep vehicle to keep folks happy and the good news is the route is mostly downhill! Just check out the revised bikely link below and you will see! Be sure to show the elevations to see a profile on the hill locations! We are thinking of starting the ride at 7:00 AM (7 minutes past the DST sunrise time) from the Ride South shop. This will give folks a bit more time to enjoy the route at 13-14 mph and a stop time of 90 minutes. Thanks to Louis for meeting us in Hattiesburg and for the ride back, Sunday!! We enjoyed riding with Johnny & Beth Rawls, as well, on the Longleaf trace for their first group ride. They make a great team! News: We know you will all want to wish Doug Morgan well this coming weekend as he is planning to race with Bacchetta speedster John Schlitter and many others in a 24 hour race! The race is in Sebring Florida. There is a link below to see last years results. Go for it Doug! You have lots of support from all of us! We were glad to see everyone out for the Rise & Shine Bread Ride Saturday! The bread turned out good as well! We hope you will join us to get in shape for the numerous fun rides we are planning on this year. As always, we appreciate you and hope you are enjoying your Ride South bike/kayak more than ever! Got problems . . . let us know and we will do our best to help.
