Journal Entry Jul 4, 2009 Independence Day Rides Independence. What a wonderful state to celebrate! Because of all those who came before us, believing in it, sharing it, and fighting for it, we continue to enjoy independence today! And enjoy it we did . . . both Friday and Saturday! Cool morning temps were enhanced further by the low humidity, and the Friday Bread Ride was enjoyed by all! And yes, the bread timed out perfectly for the two loaf crowd! Lane is doing a great job leading the Bay Ride and some folks seem to be on the verge of doing the extra miles of the Rez route! While many riders stuck to the Bay area on the Saturday ride, we chose to tour the back roads toward Pelahatchie, and enjoy the scenic, rural landscape of central Mississippi on a low traffic, Independence Day. We saw white picket fences, irrigated green fields, farm implements and tractor tires lying recumbent against barn walls, while we relaxed on our recumbent bikes, taking in the miles. After a trip through town, stopping for a cool drink and some ice cream, we rode into Jellystone. Yogi Park was full of 4th of July tourists that all seemed eager to get in the water and cool off from the warm temperatures. A splash of water on our clothes provided a good cooling effect as we pedaled back through tree canopied, smooth roads and celebrated our independence, American flags flying, for a while longer. Tomorrow, Monday July 6th, we hope to welcome in our first grand girl!! Lane and I will be in Houston for a few days so please note that the shop will be closed. You can still call us, just postpone your buying till we get back :-). We appreciate you patronage very much, and despite our independence as a country, are very dependent on your continued support for our program and shop! Thank You! Jim & Lane Remember the Biathlon on Saturday, July 11th! Bike start at 6:45 AM. 35 miles on the bike, then 4 miles on the kayak! Come join the fun at Fannin Landing.
